Synopsis

In A Love to Kill, Bi (Rain or Jeong Ji Hoon) plays a tough guy as the role of a K-1 Fighter, Kang Bok Gu. Bok Gu is a character who is dynamic in nature and grew up in a foster home. He falls in love with a woman whom he should not love. It was because of the woman, his emotionally-wounded brother fell off from the rooftop and became a human vegetable. So, his love is forbidden and inevitably tragic.

The woman is Cha Eun Seok (Shin Mina) who is a TV talent and movie actor. It was not that she jilted his brother on purpose, but upon a basis of misunderstanding, his hatred toward Cha Eun Seok grows more and more burning.

By becoming Cha Eun Seok’s private bodyguard, Bok Gu keeps concretely practicing his revenge upon her. He only desires ‘to bring his brother’s woman to her knees.’ He is gradually taking Cha Eun Seok to destruction, while he feels his love toward her growing deeper and deeper in his heart.

Bok Gu is a cold guy character without any special concern for woman. Martial art of hand-to-hand fighting was just kind of his escape he choose from the shock of a spinster’s death whom he loved from a distance.

Sparkling Red Star

Adapted from renowned writer Li Xintian’s same-titled novel, animated film Sparkling Red Star is a heartwarming, colorful, and patriotic children’s story set in 1930s China. Naked Ambition and Love on the Rocks director Lam Chiu Yin makes a rather significant departure from his previous works to present the big adventures of a little comrade. Growing up in a time of chaos, carefree village boy Dongzi greatly admires his brave Red Army soldier father and the Red Guards who have protected his village from the evil landlord. When Dongzi’s father leaves for the Long March, he gives a sparkling red star to his son. This red star becomes Dongzi’s protector in the subsequent years as he encounters numerous hardships and slowly comes of age during the changing tides of wartime China.

The Cantonese version of Sparkling Red Star features the voices of Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi of Twins, Kenny Kwan, Mandy Chiang, Sun Boy’z, Louise Lee, Law Ka Ying, and Tsui Siu Ming. The Mandarin version is voiced by Super Girl Xu Fei, Jiang Wenli, and Zhu Xinyun, who starred in the 1974 live-action film adaptation of Sparkling Red Star.

Calabash Brother

The legendary Calabash Brothers are set to make a comeback with a new feature-length film.

From May 27, children can enjoy “Calabash Brothers”, a film version of the famous Chinese cartoon at cinemas nationwide, Nanfang daily reported Monday.

About 20 years ago, the cartoon of the same name was first broadcast on TV, telling of the adventures of seven brothers who were born of calabashes.

These magic boys who defeated many ghosts and monsters in their journey soon became the idols of young audiences.

Speaking at the premiere, Zhou Keqin, the director of this animated film said that he hoped the movie could give support and encouragement to children who suffered from the May 12 earthquake.

In addition, the distribution company promised to release the film in the quake zones for free.

They have sent one copy of this animation and 200 sets of books on the Calabash Brothers to the quake-hit areas, the report said.

Even If You Walk And Walk (2008) DVDRip

A middle-aged brother and sister and their families visit their aging parents on the fifteenth anniversary of their brother Junpei’s death from drowning while saving another boy. Relationships between generations are strained, however, and patriarch Kyohei (Yoshio Harada), a former doctor, does not hide his resentment for his surviving son Ryoto (Hiroshi Abe), an out of work art restorer. Selected as the best film at the Toronto International Film Festival in a poll of film critics and bloggers, Hirokazu Koreeda’s Still Walking is a family-oriented comedy/drama about generational conflict and the consequences of loss. Unfolding in real time over a twenty-four hour period, it has been compared to Ozu’s Tokyo Story in its intimate interchanges that accurately capture the way families relate to each other but lacks Ozu’s warmth and subtlety.

The day is spent with routine activities such as preparing meals and playing with the small children. Kyohei remains detached and hides in his office, pretending to be occupied with medical business. He only emerges to bicker with his wife (Kiki Kinn) and play with his grandson. Ryoto, who did not look forward to the reunion, is put off by his father’s disdain for his profession of art restoration and his coolness toward his new wife Yukari (Yui Natsukawa). She craves acceptance for herself and her son Atsushi (Shoehi Tanaka) from a previous marriage in which her husband died. A picture of the deceased Junpei is placed in the center of the Yokoyama family house reminding Ryoto that whatever he does, he cannot measure up to Junpei, who was to be his father’s heir.

He also notices that his sister Chinami (You) has no such expectations and her life with her car-salesman husband and two children seems outside of the range of family conflicts. When the boy that Junpei rescued visits the family, sneering remarks are made about his bulky frame and lack of ambition and old resentments come to the surface. After Chinami and her family leave, it is clear that Ryoto wishes he had not agreed to spend the night but conflicts seem to soften with the passage of time. Based on a novel by the director and occasioned by the death of his mother and the discussions of his childhood they had during her last days, Still Walking has a sense of naturalism and simplicity that is endearing.

Yen, who also served as action director on the film, saves all of the film’s best moments for himself, namely a double bill of ferociously violent encounters. The already infamous alleyway knife fight against Wong Po’s top henchman, played by the dazzling Wu Jing, leads up to the film’s explosive finale as Donnie and Sammo square off in one of the most eagerly-anticipated match-ups of this, or any, year.

For any discernible fan of action, Asian or martial arts movies, cop thrillers, bullet ballets or heroic bloodshed operatics, SPL is the movie you have been waiting for.
