The extreme difficulty of the dance moves for Jolin Tsai’s recent album Butterfly Jolin has reportedly exhausted her and left her with serious injuries all over her body. She had to cancel all the arranged live gigs, and in order to fully recover she may even have to take a long break. But fear not, we can still enjoy her magnificent live performances anytime with this super-value package!

Jolin’s Love & Live 2009 CD contains 6 songs she rarely performed live, including a new version of her first ballad “I Know You Are Very Sad”. The set also comes with TWO Jolin concerts on DVD, namely Butterfly Jolin Taichung Celebration Concert, during which she sings and dances all 10 songs from the album, and the Slow Life Concert in which Jolin croons 11 ballads in a more intimate setting.
The album not only features Eason’s own composition “For You”, it also has songs tailor-made for him by other singer-songwriters, including Tanya Chua’s “How Much”, sodagreen vocalist Tsing Fong’s “A Trouble Like This”, Mavis Fan’s “Why are You Crying”, and Xiao An’s “Heart’s Distance”. Another highlight would be Luantan frontman Ascent’s Goa Kah Li for which Eason attempts the Taiwanese dialect for the first time! (Source: YesAsia)

The follow-up plug Never Said Goodbye fields a decidedly different team, with Chow Yiu Fai and Louis Cheung on songwriting, Paul Wong on arrangement, and Peter Kam on production. Other big names on the EP include Carl Wong, Endy Chow, Jerald, Jun Kung, and Ronald Ng. (Source: Yesasia)

This special album collects the 10 theme songs over the years on one CD, as well as their music videos on the DVD. (Source: yesAsia)

There was a period of inactivity for Zhou Bichang (BiBi) because of contractual disputes with her old company. But since her much-publicized move to a new record label, the doubts over her career have been cleared, and fans have been anticipating her new album, which promises a brand new start for the Mainland pop diva. Packaged by stylists and designers from Taiwan, and backed by a crew of talented musicians and producers, BiBi’s fourth album Time contains 10 new songs, including her first 2009 single “Sing Half a Song”, and the R&B number “Your Love” which is written for her fans. Besides, BiBi makes her first attempt at Cantonese and English songs in this album. (Source: YesAsia)

The biggest “newcomer” of 2009 has to be Gulilai Amit – wait, that’s the alter ego of A-mei Chang! On March 15, 2007, the Taiwan pop diva performed under her Puyuma aboriginal name for the very first time. Since then, it has taken her 834 days and cost NTD30 million to produce her first album in this new identity. The album, whose title Amit carries the added meaning of “A-mei: music is transformed”, presents a never-before-seen side of A-mei, and promises a new sound and style very different from what we’ve come to expect from her. Partnered by Golden Melody Award-winning producer Adia, Amit experiments with alternative music with considerable aboriginal characteristics, like in the main plug “Ancient Tune” and first single “Alter ego”.
Alan Tam champions band sound in his new album Mr. Tam – The Sound That Touches Me…, his first Cantonese studio album in over four years. The Hong Kong pop legend brought together rock artists like Paul Wong, Joey Tang, Tats Lau, Blue Jeans’ So Tak Wa, City Beat’s John Laudon, Mr., and Biz to write and produce fresh new tracks for his anticipated album. Composed by John Laudon, first plug “Read Love” is a classically constructed ballad that reminds of Tam’s 80s hits; the lyrics tell a touching story of undying love. Songs like the Paul Wong-composed “Hong Kong Hong Kong” and the Joey Tang-composed “Highs and Lows Together” pick up the pace and energy. Principal Tam also reaches out to a younger generation of musicians, collaborating with up-and-coming band Mr. on Mr. Tam. (Source: Yesasia).

After the release of his debut solo album Jerry For You in 2004, Taiwan pop idol Jerry Yan has focused on making TV dramas in the last fives years, with successive hit series like The Hospital, Hot Shot, and Starlit. But according to the F4 frontman, it’s only when singing can he be his true self. That’s probably why his legion of fans across Asia has warmed to his long-awaited follow-up effort, pushing it to the top of preorder sales charts. Known to be a private and quiet person in real life, Jerry has poured his thoughts and feelings into his latest album Freedom, whose 10 new songs offer an intimate glimpse into his inner world. Freedom comes in two cover designs showing different sides of Jerry, each coming with a different booklet. (Source: Yesasia)

With only two albums in her discography since her debut in 2001, Peggy Hsu probably wasn’t what one would call a prolific artist, but the Taiwan singer-songwriter and Golden Melody Best Producer has planned to release two albums in 2009 alone! Overflowing with vitality like the spring blossoms and the summer sun, the new album features the participation of several famous Taiwan rock artists, like Tizzy Bac’s bassist Hsu Che Yu (who does the album’s mixing), Wonfu, Cosmos People, and Peggy’s own band. Songs include the jazz number “Tick Tick Tick”, the bossa novaish “Sunlight Lover”, and the folk-styled first plug “Fine”. (Source: YesAsia)

A major contender for this year’s newcomer awards has already emerged in Alisa, an American-Taiwanese singer poised for greatness. Having triumphed in numerous singing competitions in her teenage days, Alisa famously beat Rachel Liang in the One Million Star show last year. Now signed with Universal Music Taiwan, which regards her as “Asia’s Rihanna”, Alisa releases her self-titled debut album with the backing of top lyricist Lin Xi and musician Adia. The album took 17 months to record, resulting in 12 potential hits for Alisa, including the Lin Xi-penned main plug “Iron Butterfly”, the Broadway-influenced “Rock Your Body”, her breakout number “Hound Dog”, and the retro ballad “Unexpected” (a duet with Will Pan). The Limited First Press Edition comes in AVCD format with the music video for “If There’s No Tomorrow”, which features Thai actor TOB (Bangkok Love Story). (Source: yesasia)

Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Nicholas Teo is going strong in his career. After starring in the top-rated idol drama Woody Sambo and holding his From Now On tour in Malaysia and Singapore last year, the “Ballad Prince”, now signed with Warner Music, is set to release his latest album The Moment of Silence in June 2009. The main track The Moment of Silence is an Euro rock number that manifests love in its simplest and most straightforward form. Other songs on the album include “Don’t Listen to His Songs Anymore” and “Low Profile”. (Source: YesAsia)

Choc7, the second boy band emerged from Taiwan’s popular idol-nurturing TV program Bang Bang Tang, consists of Ben, Modi, Peter, Shawn, Vibo, Louis, and Gevin. Being the “junior brother” of the idol group Lollipop, Choc7 was initially referred to as “the Second Lollipop”, but the group recently adopted its new name and made its formal debut in May 2009. Choc7’s first mini album contains three new songs, namely the main theme “Too Young” (lyrics penned by Lollipop), “Don’t Wait” (written by Lollipop’s Prince), and “I’m Too Stupid” (written by Gevin).
